Mother and Child high risk factor tracking with SMS Alert system is a comprehensive mobile based tool that supports the work of the Auxillary Nurse Midwife (ANM) and ensures that mothers and children with high risk factors are picked up early and referred in time. It is designed to collate information of all pregnant women and children and use it to track high risk factors and ensure closure in the loop of care.
The ANMs are provided with android based tablets with the mKhushali app that has encoded antenatal, postnatal, infancy and childhood forms that take the ANM through the signs and symptoms to be noted, diagnostic investigations to be performed and provide intuitive and real-time situational alerts regarding the high risk factor present, treatment to be given and need for referral.
The real-time digital linkage of the data with the government health system helps to track the care provided. In addition, SMS alerts are sent to the Medical Officer at the PHC, ANMs, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers and a family member to ensure that the women and children with high risk factors as well as those who have delayed accessing care can be identified and provided care in time in order to ensure no mother or child falls through gaps in the health system.
FLW Integrated Jobaid
The Integrated FLW jobaid will digitally coordinate the activities of the three Front Line Workers (ANMS, ASHAs and Anganwadi workers), guide them through their individual activities efficiently and avoid duplication of work reducing workload. The intuitive and real-time situational medical instructions provided by the job-aids, digital linkage of the mobile-based app with the government health care system and SMS-based alerts will ensure that every mother and child with high risk factors in our implementation area are diagnosed early, referred in time and there is closure in the loop of care, thereby impacting MMR, IMR and under-5 mortality.
With support from Tata Trust this application was launched on a pilot basis in Nandurbar district, Maharashtra on the 27th July 2016. The tablets (onto which the App is encoded) were distributed to 37 Auxiliary Nurse and Midwives (ANM) from 6 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) of the Taloda and Dadhgaon Blocks. The ANMs were trained on how to use the App and its various functions.
In order to make the App comprehensive and useful for the ANMs we have added 21 videos in both Hindi and Marathi that guide them on different examinations and tests to be conducted during pregnancy. Animation films on important topics related to pregnancy and childcare have also been encoded on the tablet.
